Engine and Powertrain

Both the 2017 Dodge Challenger SXT and R/T trims can be ordered with either manual or automatic transmission. The SXT is powered by a 3.6L V6 that produces a total of 305 horsepower. That’s nowhere near the top of the pyramid when it comes to raw muscle, but it’s plenty to get this heavy machine zipping up the freeway ramp with ease. If the R/T is chosen, horsepower increases to 372 thanks to the 5.7L V8 engine. With this version, torque is also plentiful, with a total of 400 lb-ft if the automatic transmission is chosen. The R/T also boasts active sport exhaust. With the V6 engine, expect about 6.2 seconds to go from zero to 60 mph, and a somewhat faster time if the V8 is providing the power.

High-Tech Features

The base trim SXT comes with keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 5-inch screen display, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker stereo system with a USB port. The R/T is equipped with the same high-tech equipment. Both of the trims are eligible for package upgrades and special versions that add on various high-tech features and safety systems. These vary, however, depending on whether the SXT or R/T is chosen. The R/T Shaker version, for example, includes a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and satellite radio. The SXT can also be ordered with a rearview camera and rear parking sensors as well as a larger 8.4-inch screen display. Buyers merely have to choose the Plus version.

Trim Versions

Aside from the high-tech upgrades available with the purchase of a package, both the 2017 Dodge Challenger SXT and R/T trims can be purchased with packages that add exterior styling elements and interior upgrades. The SXT can be ordered with 20-inch wheels, foglights, heated front seats, and the same braking system as the R/T. One of the variants of the R/T trim is a package that adds on the Shaker hood with the large cold air induction scoop, black exterior trim elements, and sports seats. Both the SXT and R/T can also be purchased with a sunroof, navigation system, and a nine-speaker stereo system.

It’s a lot of information to digest, but suffice it to say that buyers have more package and trim options on the Challenger than just about any other coupe in the world.
